Le cinéma de mon enfance
Le réalisateur Darejan Omirbaïev prend la route en direction d’Akkol, son village natal. Il veut revoir le cinéma de son enfance à la lumière de ses propres films qui lui ont valu une reconnaissance internationale, sauf dans son pays où il est méconnu.
Il veut aussi se confronter à ses amis, 50 ans plus tard. Darejan a parcouru le monde avec ses films qui ont été sélectionnés dans les plus grands festivals internationaux (Cannes où il a reçu le Prix Un certain regard, Tokyo – Prix spécial du jury, Berlin, Venise, etc.) et distribués en Europe.
Ses amis d’enfance sont restés à Akkol. Ils n’ont pas vu ses films, ils savent juste qu’il s’est distingué au-delà des frontières.
Mais, arrivé à Akkol, mauvaise surprise : son cinéma a été détruit. À la place, une grande dalle de béton au milieu d’un bourbier. Ses amis convoquent l’ancien projectionniste et le maire. Tous ont en mémoire les films aimés de cette époque.
Alors, à la place de la salle, les amis tendent un écran, réactivent le vieux projecteur « Ukraine ». Tous vont revivre avec allégresse, un passé joyeux, le temps d’une séance éphémère. Darejan a emmené un montage d’extraits de ces films aimés et inoubliables.
The cinema of my childhood
Director Darejan Omirbaïev sets off on a journey to Akkol, his native village. He wants to revisit the cinema of his childhood in the light of his own films, which have earned him international recognition, except in his own country where he remains unknown.
He also wants to reconnect with his friends, 50 years later. Darejan has travelled the world with his films, which have been selected for the biggest international festivals (Cannes, where he received the Un Certain Regard Award, Tokyo – Special Jury Prize, Berlin, Venice, etc.) and distributed in Europe.
His childhood friends stayed in Akkol. They haven’t seen his films, they just know that he has made a name for himself beyond the borders.
But when he arrives in Akkol, he is in for an unpleasant surprise: his cinema has been destroyed. In its place is a large concrete slab in the middle of a muddy field. His friends summon the former projectionist and the mayor. They all remember the films they loved from that era.
So, in place of the cinema, the friends put up a screen and reactivate the old ‘Ukraine’ projector. Everyone joyfully relives a happy past for the duration of a fleeting screening. Darejan brought along a montage of excerpts from these beloved and unforgettable films.
