Fantascope, Badizograph, Phénaskistiscope, Cinégraphoscope, Mégascope, Lapiposcope, Mouvementographe, Cinébibliographe… N’a-t-on jamais créé autant de mots nouveaux pour une seule et même invention, le cinématographe ?
C’est qu’ils sont nombreux, ces pionniers qui, entre 1875 et 1895, vont brûler meubles et planchers pour décomposer et réanimer des images.
Les voilà tous : Joseph Plateau, Eadweard Muybridge, Etienne-Jules Marey, Georges Demenÿ dans leur folle sarabande qui nous amène au cinématographe des frères Lumières. Tous avant l’heure vont concourir, à leur façon et selon leurs moyens, à l’invention du 7 ° art tel qu’il a envahi le XX° siècle.

Fantascope, Badizograph, Phenaskistiscope, Cinégraphoscope, Megascope, Lapiposcope, Mouvementographe, Cinébibliographe … Have we ever created so many new words for one and the same invention, the cinematograph?
There are many of these pioneers who, between 1875 and 1895, burnt furniture and floors to decompose and revive images.
Here they are: Joseph Plateau, Eadweard Muybridge, Etienne-Jules Marey, George Demenÿ in their crazy sarabande that brings us to the Lumières brothers’ cinematograph. All will compete, in their own way and according to their means, to the invention of the 7th art.
