L’Eden de La Ciotat
L’Eden est le plus ancien cinéma du monde encore en activité.
En 1893, la famille Lumière s’installe en villégiature à la Ciotat. Louis et Auguste y tournent leurs premiers films dont la célèbre arrivée du train en gare et inventent le cinéma comme technique, comme dispositif et comme art.
Les deux histoires les plus importantes de la petite ville de La Ciotat sont celle des origines du cinéma, où elle est inscrite de façon indélébile, et celle des Chantiers navals qui a constitué l’activité principale de la ville au cours des deux siècles derniers.
L’Éden cinéma se trouve aux points de jonction inattendus de ces deux histoires, étonnamment synchrones jusqu’à une date très récente.

The Eden of La Ciotat
The Eden is the oldest cinema in the world still in operation.
In 1893, the Lumière family settled in La Ciotat for a holiday. Louis and Auguste shot their first films there, including the famous arrival of the train at the station, and invented cinema as a technique, a device and an art form.
The two most important histories of the small town of La Ciotat are the history of the origins of cinema, where it is indelibly inscribed, and the history of the shipyards, which have been the main activity of the town for the last two centuries.
L’Éden cinéma is located at the unexpected junction of these two histories, which were surprisingly synchronous until very recently.
