Le Modernissimo de Bologne

En plongeant dans le cinéma souterrain du Modernissimo creusé en 1914 dans les entrailles de Bologne puis abandonné dans les années 2000, ce film raconte, à la façon d’un film amateur, l’histoire d’une ville emblématique d’Italie.

Archives officielles de Bologne au XXème siècle s’entrelacent avec les archives personnelles du protagoniste, un père qui s’adresse à son fils perdu de vue. Il lui dédie ce film artisanal. Entre ses rêves inaboutis de révolutionnaire et de cinéaste, ce père retrace l’histoire familiale habitée de fantômes, et invite son fils à Bologne pour la réouverture du Modernissimo, salle mythique de toute une vie.

Bologna’s Modernissimo

By diving into the underground cinema of the Modernissimo, dug in 1914 in the bowels of Bologna and then abandoned in the 2000s, this film tells the story of an emblematic Italian city in the manner of an amateur film.

Official archives of Bologna in the 20th century are intertwined with the personal archives of the protagonist, a father who speaks to his long-lost son. He dedicates this handmade film to him. Between his unfulfilled dreams as a revolutionary and as a filmmaker, this father retraces the family history inhabited by ghosts, and invites his son to Bologna for the reopening of the Modernissimo, the mythical theatre of a lifetime.
